EU H2020 Triangle Project Open Call Experiment

18-Oct-2018, Tallinn, Estonia
An experimentation proposal (titled 5GVR) from Digiotouch on developing a 5G powered Virtual Reality mobile application for Android devices has been accepted as a part of Open Call (OC6) of EU H2020 Triangle Project.
Digiotouch is working on the VR app for Android devices targeting Smart Museum, Smart City verticals and currently the app is powered by our Cloud based Paradise IoT Platform. The fundamental objectives of the 5GVR experiment are twofold -
-
Develop a MEC application server for the high-quality multimedia content caching and delivery. Since the server is located very close to the VR headsets, our VR app will benefit from low latency (~10ms). The MEC application server will obtain multimedia contents from the Paradise IoT Platform. In addition to that, the app is also enabled by 5G features like low power consumption, improved QoS, and support 10x more simultaneous connections brings.
-
Make our VR app 5G-ready. 5G is anticipated to break the current barriers in VR adoption, and make the later a mainstream technology. We will test our app in Triangle Testbed and obtain a certification for upcoming 5G systems.
About Triangle Project - TRIANGLE is building a framework to help app developers and device manufacturers in the evolving 5G sector to test and benchmark new mobile applications in Europe utilising existing and extended FIRE testbeds. This framework will evaluate Quality of Experience and enable certification for new mobile applications and devices.
This project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 688712.
