Develop a Multi-Access Edge Computing (MEC) application server for the high-quality multimedia content caching and delivery. Since the server is located very close to the VR headsets, our VR app will benefit from low latency (~10ms). The MEC application server will obtain multimedia contents from the Paradise IoT Platform. In addition to that, the app is also enabled by 5G features like low power consumption, improved QoS, and support 10x more simultaneous connections brings.
Making the VR app 5G-ready. 5G is anticipated to break the current barriers in VR adoption, and make the later a mainstream technology.
The functional architecture of the experiment is depicted in Figure 1. The developed MEC application server was deployed in a virtual machine as a part of the Triangle Testbed. The MEC server caches the VR video contents by downloading them from the Digiotouch Cloud based Paradise IoT Platform. The Android devices under test connects to the MEC server which then streams the VR content requested. The 5GVR experiment summary is shown in Figure 2.

About Triangle Project - TRIANGLE is building a framework to help app developers and device manufacturers in the evolving 5G sector to test and benchmark new mobile applications in Europe utilizing existing and extended FIRE Testbeds.
